Who operates GRIDIRON AMERICA?

GRIDIRON AMERICA is an amateur sports program operated by Capital Area Team Sports, Inc. ("CATS"), a non-profit organization founded in 1995 and based in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Non-Profit?

Yes.  CATS is a non-profit corporation under North Carolina law, and our officers and directors are specifically prohibited in those capacities from receiving compensation for their services to the organization under our bylaws.

When do GRIDIRON AMERICA seasons take place?

GRIDIRON AMERICA's inaugural season of 5-man contact began on Sunday, January 8, 2012.  The league's second season of play is scheduled to begin on Saturday, April 28, and a fall season of play is tentatively planned for September.

How long are games?

Each style of GRIDIRON AMERICA play will comprise 32 minutes of total game play, divided into two 16-minute halves.  With time outs and halftime intermissions, we anticipate games to begin hourly on gamedays.

How long are seasons?

Each GRIDIRON AMERICA season will comprise 10 regular season games, with postseason games following for qualifying teams.  If scheduling parameters and operating budgets permit, longer regular seasons are possible.

What is the expected level of competition?

It's hard to be certain, but unlike our previous league (which operated from 2002-2010), GRIDIRON AMERICA is aimed at more of a recreational player than the competitive one.  So it's entirely possible we'll feature skill levels that run the gamut from ex-professional football players to guys who accidentally hike the ball into their own crotch during a snap - and no, we're not kidding about that; in our prior league, it did happen!
